GPS

For FSX/P3D or X-Plane 11

Overview
  • Real size GPS and modeled after the Garmin 530
  • Nice LCD Display for graphics (from simulator, VGA connector)
  • Rock solid Elma encoders and buttons
  • Interacts nicely with FSX/P3D and X-Plane 11
  • Single USB connection to simulator, no "motherboard" or other controllers required
  • Price: $400 USD + S&H (generally $11 in continental US)

The Mindstar GPS software provides a "bezel free" GPS viewing experience for FSX/P3D

For X-Plane you can get "bezel free" in the base product.   Just follow the steps in https://developer.x-plane.com/2017/09/three-lesser-known-aircraft-features-for-11-10.   It describes an easy way to change the built-in GNS430/530, FMS or G1000 instrument to put on external monitor without a bezel.

For convenience, the Garmin_530_2d.png "1x1 pixel" file can be downloaded below; place this in your X-Plane 11 folder, resources/bitmaps/cockpit/radios/GPS_FMS/.  Right click and "Save link as" to download the file, if you just click on it, a single 'red dot' will appear on the screen.  Note, when upgrading X-Plane it will ask if want to overwrite these files each time - I tell it to ignore this folder, but you can let it overwrite then put the files back afterward, your choice.
